Lockwood
A family of predominantly male witches, the Lockwoods were a once influential warlock family in Wales and then in Salem before being driven out by the church for their affinity to magic. They are wielders of the ancient art of Weaponsmith and magical barriers and are the ones responsible for the fog barrier surrounding the town.
Fay
Descendants from the fairy sorceress Morgan Le Fay herself, the Fay’s are most common for their aptitude in compulsion, illusions, and hexes as well as their direct connection to the Fairies. Some sources claim them to be connected to Necromancy as well, though this is vigorously denied by the family. A Queen in her own right and a Supreme in her day, the revered witch was best known for her skills in divination and manipulation and has passed on her abilities to her kin. This family is responsible for the magic used to eliminate any knowledge of magic within a Human upon crossing the border.
Duke
The Duke's are descendants of strong Salem witches and are best known for their connection to natural magic, or better known as elemental magic, and their strong leadership skills. Among the Founding Families, they are referred as the unofficial leaders of the town and are in charge of the well being of the town, its people, and the task of enforcing the laws set in motion for the covens.
Belrose
With roots going back to South Africa, the Belrose family were once slaves brought to the new territory of Louisiana and at one time called New Orleans home. Once freed from their masters they had already become accustomed to the Belrose name and took it as their own as they proceeded North where they would come to meet the other Founding Families. Commonly known as the “Caretakers”, the Belrose's are in charge of the protection, healing and renewal of the magical energy contained within the town. Due to the fact that the town’s magical energy is harnessed from nearby Oak trees, this family has an aptitude for healing, magical containment and extraction, spiritual and animal communication, transmutation and knowledge of magical herbs and trees. It is their job to ensure the survival of the town by making sure their magical supply is strong and ample. They are the only family strong enough to use Ancestral Magic and are famously known for their connection to Familiars.
